Abstract: In order to minimize the impact from the Global Budget Model (GBM) announced by National Healthcare Insurance at Taiwan and satisfy the necessity of cost control in large hospital organizations, a Medical Application Service Architecture ( MASA) is proposed. This architecture uses object-oriented concept to implement a software reuse model, which lets a large hospital act as an Application Service Provider (ASP) and affiliate clinical and small hospitals act as medical application users. Obviously with the application of MASA, the Hospital Information Systems ( HIS) are easy to be used by the affiliated hospitals, and this will greatly decrease the total development and maintenance cost for the affiliate hospitals.
