Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate burn patients knowledge, health beliefs and compliance behaviors toward wearing a pressure garment. In addition, we also tried to explore factors influencing these results. Patients and Methods: This is a descriptive and cross- sectional study. The subjects were 43 burn patients discharged from a medi-cal center in eastern Taiwan. Patient’s activity levels, knowledge, health beliefs, and pressure garment compliance were measured. Results: Findings of this study were as follows: (1) The rate of correct responses in the pressure garment knowledge assessment was 79%. Health beliefs showed median scores, and the compliance rate was 61 %. (2) The correlation between patients’ knowledge , health beliefs, and compliance behaviors in wearing pressure garments was positive. (3) Educational level and the total body area burned were significant predictors of patients’knowledge of pressure garments. These two predictors explained 25% of the total variance in pressure garment knowledge. Educa-tional level, socioeconomic status, and the total body area burned were significant predictors of patients’ health beliefs. These three predictors explained 31% of the total variance in patients’ health beliefs. The total body area burned, health beliefs, amount of time wearing the garments and educational level were significant predictors of burn patients’ pres-sure garment compliance behaviors. These four predictors explained 51% of the total variance in pressure garment compliance behaviors. Conclusions: This study will help health personnel understand the knowledge, health beliefs and compliance behaviors toward pressure garment of burn patients during home care. It can be used as a reference for caregivers to organize discharge plans and provide better care for burn patients.
